Why Regular Physicals Are Important

Regular physicals are important for everyone, especially children. Regular physicals provide an opportunity for your pediatrician to monitor and track your child’s growth and development over time. They are also required for your child to attend daycare, school, or play a sport. Dr. Zarar Bajwa and Dr. Umai Shaik at Bajwa Pediatrics provide a wide range of pediatric medicine services, including regular physicals. They have two convenient office locations in Pottsville, and Tamaqua, PA.

How Regular Physicals Can Help Your Child

There are several important steps involved in a regular physical. During a regular physical, your pediatrician will:

  • Record your child’s height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and other vital information
  • Discuss any medical issues, injuries, or illnesses your child has recently experienced
  • Perform a comprehensive physical examination, including the eyes, nose, throat, and ears
  • Evaluate your child’s vision and hearing
  • Discuss potential medical issues when your child attends school
  • Administer required and recommended immunizations for your child to attend school

If your child wants to play a sport, your child will need a sports physical. The sports physical contains all of the steps listed above and also includes:

  • Checking your child’s balance, reflexes, flexibility, and strength
  • Discussing potential symptoms like chest pain, breathing problems, dizziness or other symptoms that may occur with activity
  • Assessing whether your child is healthy enough to play a sport
  • Ensuring your child is current on recommended and required immunizations
